Thysse Printing of Oregon, Wisconsin was recognised at the Print UV 2015 Conference at The Encore Resort in Las Vegas on 3 March for its leadership in the sheetfed offset litho printing industry, and for its second LED UV press brought into production in just one year.

Thysse became one of the first general commercial printers in North America to adopt AMS' environmentally sound LED Ultraviolet curing technology on a Ryobi 750 29-inch four-colour press in early 2014. Following its first success, which included increased production capacity of 40 per cent, Thysse purchased a second machine retrofitted with AMS LED - a Heidelberg CD 74 six-colour with coater, which was commissioned just a few weeks ago.
‘I cannot imagine printing conventional ever again,’ said owner, Jason Thysse. The AMS XP7 Series LED UV system modules, now on both presses, allow Thysse to print up to 400 per cent ink densities at full press speeds, without marking, spray powder, protective coatings or short stacking.
There is no heat, ozone, or mercury involved in the instant photoinitiated drying process, and energy consumption is far less than that of standard UV or IR/Hot Air. Throughput in the bindery is dramatically increased with printed jobs instantly ready for post-processing and shipment to customers.
‘Our press sales on the first LED press increased 30 – 40 per cent on a monthly basis just with the extra work we were able to bring in,’ added Thysse. ‘It's been an amazing experience.’
‘We are thrilled to recognise Thysse Printing Services for their achievements on behalf of the International LED UV Association, a newly-formed organisation designed to advance the adoption of LED UV technology in multiple industries,’ remarked Stephen Metcalf, CEO of AMS. ‘Jason and his team are living proof that LED UV is changing the printing industry in ways bigger than we could have imagined. We congratulate them wholeheartedly on their success.’
